Carboot sale in "Hipodromo Sant Jordi"

"Objects should not die"

A son and grand son of antiquarians, Bernard Clavire has created this market out of passion for "la brocante". He loves it and apparently this is contagious, every body in Ibiza has caught the idea and the Sant Jordi Market is a great success.

A great variety of things are to be found on sale here. It reflects the type of population of the island. People which have come from every country in the world to settle and at some point want to resell what they brought.

One can find all kinds of things.

On Saturday morning, here, it's a real Fiesta, people come to see their friends, have a drink together and make some business. This is a social phenomena. The market has its own life, it has evolved spontaneously and has also become a meeting point. The 6 first sellers of  the opening in January 1996, have grown to 150.

"For me it is a real pleasure to see how this weekly event has contributed to revive friendship among the residents of the island. People who had lost contact between themselves, meet again." Says Bernard. "the atmosphere is great, people have a good time and smile, we all enjoy it".

Vegetables, vehicles, fresh fruits, furniture, art, electronics, clothes of all kind, books, antiques, kitchen ware, toys ... there is no limit. Whatever they want to sell people can bring.

At 10 am, the vendors arrive, at 11,30 am buyers usually start to come. The market closes at 2 pm.

People who are moving sell their stuff for a really good deal. Others who are installing a new house can find a lot of what they need  for a bargain. With all this, things get recycled and that's positive.
